The Mermaids’ Treasure print has been corrected as far as the outlines/sizing goes, but I still need to fix the colour palettes and get new colour samples done. Really, really frustrated by the memory errors I keep encountering on that project.
Meanwhile, the skeleton key print (still officially unnamed) progresses. As you can see, there are gaps still in the tiling, so I’ve drawn a few more keys that need to be scanned in. I am working on designing a few more locks, as well, just in case. This print will have vectored line art, but I will be doing the colour aspect of things in Photoshop, for a more painterly, watercolour effect to the shading.
I’ve decided that the pieces for the series will have the key print used for the skirts while the bodices, waistbands and decorative accents will be regimental stripe material in coordinating colours. I plan to have fewer colourways this time from the previous two prints, for my own sanity, since these wont be released on Spoonflower.
Colourway ideas:
- Navy blue and pale, dusty rose with gold accents
- Olive green and cream with gold accents
- Black and violet with silver accents
- Brown and cream with amber accents
- Wine red and pale blue with silver accents
- Emerald green and pale yellow with dark gold accents
- Deep purple and cool pink with gold accents
I know that one piece for the skeleton key print will be a halter-neck JSK. Possibly with vest-style lapels? Alternatively, I may just make a vest/waistcoat by itself. I’ve also sketched plans for/am considering an asymmetrical over skirt (longer in back with “swallow” style points over a striped or coloured underskirt, maybe open in front).
Everything about both of these sounds fabulous, and I can’t wait to see the final colorways and designs!

Yeah, pastels would be odd with that print I think. I’m just think a brighter color would be nice for how it pops. That...
