Surprise: everyone's mad at Chick-fil-A

In the weeks after Dan Cathy’s announcement that Chick-fil-A opposes marriage equality, the restaurant’s popularity has plummeted. 

The polling organization YouGov found Chick-fil-A’s brand approval ratings dropped to their lowest in years, below the average for fast-food chains, since Cathy’s announcement. Details:

Just before Cathy’s interview was published, Chick-fil-A’s Index score was 65, well above the Top National Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) Sector average score of 46. Just four days later, however, Chick-fil-A’s score had fallen to 47, while last week, the chain had a score of 39, compared to the Top National QSR Sector average score of 43.

Okay, so it is pretty cool to be able to quantify all the anti-Chick-fil-A sentiment that’s been flying around, but really, is anyone surprised by this? Say what you want about how a CEO can hold whatever beliefs s/he wants, but how could an LGBT*Q person not feel alienated by what Cathy said, particularly knowing how much he donates to hate groups?
